Great hidden Cantonese restaurant in Chinatown. I came with my cousin during lunch time. FYI their lunch prices is around $5.50 per dish on the lunch menu. Great deal! There is a wide variety to select from. We ordered the Walnut Shrimp and Rau Muong (Water Spinach) stir fried with garlic. They will give you rice to pair with the dishes you order. After ordering, we got our food within 10 minutes. Real quick!

Walnut Shrimp: 5/5 - They give a decent amount of large shrimp. Yes, that's right large sized shrimp not small shrimp with a lot of batter to make it look large. Also, the best part is eating the honey walnut.

Rau Muong stir fried with garlic: 3/5 - When eating the Water Spinach, I prefer the leafy and thin stems with a bunch of garlic. However, this came with a the huge stems which is more chewy to eat and barely any garlic. Good amount of veggies though.

R House is one of the few Cantonese restaurants in Houston and I do like going here! I'm just docking off two stars for service since they are pretty slow.

Food is great and I love their $5.95 lunch specials everyday from 11am-3pm. It's also a very generous portion size too. My favorite is their beef and egg ho fun and scallion pancakes :) I've tried most of their dishes but these two are my musts for every meal!

As for service, you have to get their attention if order to get what you want. If they're busy with large parties, then they'll most likely forget about you completely.

Most of the Cantonese food that we tried were good. We ordered the scallion pancakes, bo luc lac (shaking beef), and pork with tomatoes - all were good. My daughter ordered the udon soup and she said that it's really bland.

We also had a dinner meeting there and ordered a lot of dishes that were mostly delicious.

I used to frequent here but stopped coming as the quality of food has gone down substantially. Tonight we came by for late dinner on a Sunday night. Ordered the beef chow ho fun and wonton vermicelli soup. Beef noodle wasn't hot and didn't have the wok flavor. Then I waited 10 mins for the soup. The waitress said they don't precook wonton so it took 5 mins. I laughed as it has been 20 mins since placing the order. At first glance, lots of veggies but all the wonton were deformed. Then I tasted the broth, it was FLAVORLESS. 'Broth' was super clear, not a single drop of oil. It literally tasted like water. I have eaten countless bowls of this and would conclude this isn't for human consumption. Bland, tasteless, chewy and deformed wontons. I asked the waitress what broth, she said it had pork bones and veggies but the soup can be diluted. I was like you should try as it is clearly water. She smiled and said that's impossible.
No point to keep arguing. I know this is the LAST for me.

R House is my favorite Cantonese restaurant ever. I've been coming here for the past five years any time that I'm in Houston. The authenticity and flavors that they have is unparalleled to others.

My go tos are always their Mongolian beef and their fried beef ho fun with egg and gravy. The Mongolian beef is salty and spicy and pairs amazingly well with rice and the noodle dish. The noodle is milder and eggy but the beef in the dish has plenty of flavor. I've also tried congee, chicken, etc and everything is always freshly prepared and delicious.

On top of it, the prices are crazy competitive. Where else do you get $5.50 specials that you can share with another person? R House never fails to please me when I'm in town and I'm so grateful for it. I'll miss it when I go back to LA.

Thanks R House for all the precious memories and meals.
